Simple Design For a Small Window

If you have a small window you really don't want a window treatment which is too elaborate. It will overpower the size of the window and block out light so you might think about not using valances in these circumstances.

However I spotted a design recently which does seem to work well. You could use this to set off a small window and give it a very effective finishing touch. A plain blind would be enough to cover the window itself and provide privacy in the evening.

See how the valance covers very little of the window to avoid blocking out light and a roller blind could be rolled right out of the way during the day. This version is striped and so would work with a number of color schemes.

How to Make Window Valances

If you are skilled with a needle you can make a fortune by making your own valances and window treatments, however make sure that you have great instructions - don't rely on any old article you read on the internet.

This is a case for investing in a proper book which will tell you exactly how to make a window valance and have it look great for your particular windows.

The last thing you want to do is buy expensive fabric and then see your money go down the drain because of poor instructions.

With that in mind I picked out a couple of instruction books which will fit the bill well in helping you succeed in making great window valances.

Here they are. Take a look and see if they will meet your requirements.

Pink Valance for Pretty Girl's Room

This is a beautiful window valance which would suit a baby girl or young girl's room and make it fit for a princess.

The pink ribbon tie top makes a decorative heading and it is also easy to fit onto any curtain rod or pole. (If you already have curtains then you will need an additional drapery rod so that the valance does not interfere with the operation of the curtains)

The addition of a valance is a way to enhance plain curtains or blinds and can provide a starting point for your room decor.

You will find matching items here and you could also pick out the pink, blue or green colors from the flowers for other accessories in your little girl's room or nursery.

Why Window Valances

Window valances are the forgotten heroes in the window treatment world. Sometimes we buy them if they come with the curtains in a set but mostly they are not even thought of. Yet they can uplift your windows and make them something special where simple curtains can't.

In fact you can use window valances with or without curtains to draw attention to and frame your windows. They are a great way of giving a simple blind a designer look for example and can be used to good effect where you have cafe curtains covering the lower half of your windows.

Plus valances come in many different forms. They can be floaty and romantic or formal and geometric. They can match the curtains or stand out. For some straight forward advice on valances there' s a guide over at Window Valances Online which will help you decide which type to look for to enhance your room.

On this blog I will provide you lots of examples of great valances so you get some good ideas for your windows.
